Summary:

Susan Kuklin’s Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out is a written record of her meetings with six non-cisgender young adults. Using photography and transcribed interviews, she gives a candid look at their lives, covering everything from transition, to family, to how they express their identity. Each story is totally different, giving insight into the lives of trans young people. Students will find stories they relate to, stories different from their own, but nonetheless stories that they will be touched by. A 2015 recipient of the Stonewall Honoree award.

Tomorrow Will Be Different In the 2020 general election, Sarah McBride was elected to the Delaware state Senate, making her the highest ranking trans official in US political history. Before this, she served as an activist for trans Delawarians, getting legislation passed prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations which included strong personal support from Joe Biden.

 

Her work as an activist is chronicled in this memoir which recounts her legal and cultural struggles on the ground as one of the most notable activists for trans equality in recent years. It will give students of all backgrounds who read it an appreciation of how far this relatively recent fight has come, and how we can proceed together.
